Today, as I changed the calendar over to October and looked at the month ahead, I also paused to look back over the last 6 weeks. Our morning routines are settled, friendship are blooming, and overall, our days are ready for more and more additions. We have started to challenge these little ones to see the world as a reader. Noticing letters, sounds, and exclamation points. They giggle each morning, when I try to "trick" them as we count together and I mix up the numbers. Their eyes look for patterns and the wheels turn as they shout out "That's MY letter!" or "It rhymes!". So much of our learning is done in the moment. While singing our phonics song at large group, discussing a topic in small group, reading a story together, completing a name puzzle, looking for seeds in the garden, or using our hands to capture an idea in play dough.. It is hard to place that kind of learning in a back pack. October will be packed full of fun and new learning. My hope is that you will talk to your child about their favorite song, the best part of the story, and what they did really well at school today. When they share a little, be sure to respond "Tell me more..."

18+ years working with little people have given me an appreciation for the finer things in life: giggles, wide eyes, high fives and a good book. All signs of a great day! ArchivesCategories |
